MISSION ADAPTATIVE CONFIGURATION | 3 in 1 SOLUTION
The RQ-17 ION follows the Mission Adaptative Configuration concept created by JETWIND. It is the solution in diverse scenarios where usually more than one platform is required meaning high acquisition costs (at least the costs of 2 platforms, e.g. a quadrotor and a fixed wing) also adding Training and Maintenance complexity to the end user operation.
The RQ-17 ION F3 can assume 3 different configurations, in a easy process optimized for field set up. (see variants F1, F2, QUAD 1 and QUAD 2): it is the first 3 in 1 solution for multi-role civil or military missions.
Hobby drones do not comply with standards while the RQ-17 ION is currently under certification by competent aeronautical authorities. The RQ-17 ION design has Patent Pending in the Brazilian INPI (National Institute of Intellectual Property) and the Swiss WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and follows the best practices of the aeronautical industry being a true dual employment platform.
To solve the equation "fixed-wing performance + rotary-wing operational flexibility" the RQ-17 ION is a VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft, a similar concept employed succesfully in the Hawker Siddeley/BAE Harrier.
